The £10 to £10k Challenge: Arsenal to ease past Coventry

Porto's stroll against Beira-Mar has neatly led to what John Baines hopes to be another non-event as the Gunners face the Sky Blues in the Capital One Cup.

The £10 to £10k Challenge: Arsenal to ease past Coventry

After headlining the last £10 to £10k Challenge article ‘It’s going to get interesting’, I’m afraid to report I’ll have to renege on that promise after a relatively low-profile couple of days.

Join bwin here now to place up to £20 in free bets on Arsenal v Coventry!

Last weekend’s bet was for Porto – unbeaten at home in four years – to beat Liga Zon Sagres whipping boys Beira-Mar and the Dragons duly executed their mission with a handsome 4-0 win.

A pair of goals in each half tallied up another three points for the Portuguese giants in what was one of my most comfortable bets of the challenge thus far.

The sums involved will hardly knock your socks off either. The Porto win at 7/50 took me up to £39.88 from £34.98 and even before that, I’d already made my mind up where the midweek bet was going.

Now usually I’ll try to add to the narrative by drumming up facts and figures with virtually no bearing on the fixture in question in an attempt to add some atmosphere to a clash, but how enlightening can I make Arsenal’s kids’ cosy Capital One Cup win over Coventry City sound?

The Gunners have just outplayed the Premier League champions on their own patch and the Sky Blues have nosedived out of the Championship to second bottom of League One. Coventry are without a win since beating Birmingham City in extra-time in the previous round to set up this tie and haven’t won in the league all season.

Even if Arsene Wenger sends out a side that are usually in bed by kick-off, the next batch of young Gunners should enjoy five minutes of fame before embarking on their glittering careers at Middlesbrough, Chesterfield and Manchester City.

Bwin’s 3Way football betting market has Arsenal at just 9/50 for the win, which seems fairly generous given the gulf in class and home advantage, while also having the added bonus of being almost half as long as my shortest allowed price of 1/10, which means there’s one step cut from the road to reach £10,000.

An Arsenal win in 90 minutes will take me to £47.60 after ten successful bets and do little to simmer my brimming confidence about a long and meandering run which, in a few weeks, should crash me past the £100 barrier.
