Arsenal new favourites for Capital One Cup after incredible win at Reading
Arsene Wenger's side are 7/2 to lift the League Cup and win their first trophy since 2004 following the extraordinary events at the Madejski Stadium last night.
Following one of the most amazing matches in the history of the competition, Arsenal are now favourites to win the Capital One Cup, ahead of Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Aston Villa, Leeds United and Middlesbrough.
Despite being 4-0 down at the Madejski Stadium, Arsene Wenger’s side stormed back to secure a 4-4 draw in 90 minutes before eventually winning 7-5 in extra-time thanks to a Theo Walcott hat-trick.
That incredible result has seen the Gunners move to 7/2 to win the League Cup and end their eight-year trophy drought and they are the clear favourites going into Wednesday’s matches.
Punters registering with bwin can claim a free £20 bet and placing this on Arsenal to win the competition would return a cool £90 if successful.
Liverpool, who play their fourth-round match at home to Swansea on Wednesday, are joint-second favourites at 5/1 to retain the trophy they won in February under Kenny Dalglish (the Swans are 22/1), the same price as Chelsea, who are also 5/1 ahead of their tie with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are 6/1 to win the competition for the first time since 2010, just ahead of Tottenham, who are 11/2 as they prepare for their trip to Norwich City in the fourth round. The Canaries are 28/1 to win the cup, as they did in 1985.
The only other side at single figures are Aston Villa, who are 7/1 following their 3-2 win against League One Swindon Town at the County Ground.
Two Championship sides, Leeds United and Middlesbrough, are 20-1 after both knocking out Premier League opposition. Neil Warnock’s side beat Southampton 3-0 at Elland Road, while Boro got a 1-0 win over north-east rivals Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Bradford City of League Two are the only team from outside the top two divisions to reach the quarter-finals after a brilliant penalty shoot-out victory over Premier League Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. The Bantams are 150/1 to lift the Capital One Cup.
