Goals Galore: Expect games at Reading, Swansea and Leeds to deliver
With some of the Premier League big boys entering the fray in round two, Jack Beresford picks out three Capital One Cup ties that could all feature over 2.5 goals.
The football action continues this week with round two of the Capital One Cup where Premier League duo Reading and Swansea City could provide goals aplenty in their clashes with Peterborough United and Barnsley respectively, while Leeds United are sure to entertain against high-flying Oxford United.
All three matches take place on Tuesday and make ideal tips for the latest instalment in bwinbetting’s ‘Goals Galore’ feature, in which we offer punters the games most likely to feature three or more goals.
Combining over 2.5 goals in each for a treble offers odds of just over 4/1, which translates to winnings of £86.38 for any newly-registered customers keen to take advantage of bwin’s free £20 bet.

Over 2.5 goals in Reading v Peterborough @ 11/20
Reading will come into this game full of confidence following an impressive display against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Some dodgy refereeing prevented the Royals from claiming any points – Fernando Torres was clearly offside when scoring the Blues’ crucial third goal – but the visitors did come away with two memorable strikes in a six-goal thriller.
The fact that Reading are facing Peterborough United, who were one of last year’s great entertainers in the Championship (29 of their 46 games contained three or more goals), makes the inclusion of this fixture a no-brainer.
After all, Posh have continued in a similar vein this term, with three of their last four competitive games featuring over 2.5 goals. One of those included an impressive 4-0 win over Southend United in the first round of the Capital One Cup and history suggests there could be goals aplenty when Darren Ferguson’s men meet the Royals.
Each of the last four encounters between Reading and Peterborough have featured over 2.5 goals and with odds of 11/20 available on a repeat, you certainly wouldn’t bet against them making it five.
Over 2.5 goals in Swansea City v Barnsley @ 18/25
The Swans are flying high in the Premier League at the moment, with two impressive wins, eight goals scored and none conceded. Last time out, West Ham United were put to the sword with a 3-0 drubbing and a similar story could unfold here.
Barnsley’s recent form may be erratic but Tykes fans have been treated to a similar amount of goalmouth action, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of the Yorkshire club’s last four competitive games.
One particular highlight came in the last round of the Capital One Cup, with Barnsley triumphing 4-3 over Rochdale to set up the tie with Swansea.
Swansea boss Michael Laudrup will no doubt rotate his squad with Sunday’s visit of Sunderland in mind, but the players stepping in will surely be eager to impress the Dane.
And if they fail to perform defensively, that could let the Tykes into the game in an attacking sense – which plays into our hands perfectly in the context of a Goals Galore treble.
Over 2.5 goals in Leeds United v Oxford United @ 31/50
Elland Road is normally a good place to be if you want to see attacking action, with only three teams (Peterborough, Blackpool and Ipswich) playing in more home games featuring over 2.5 goals than Leeds in the Championship last year.
On top of that, over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the Whites’ last four competitive games, with the other occasion being a 4-0 rout of Shrewsbury Town in the previous round of the Capital One Cup.
Neil Warnock’s side have scored in each of their last four matches and face an Oxford side bang in form and presumably full of confidence and attacking menace following three straight victories in League Two.
The U’s have hit form in the goals department too, with two scored in each of their last three matches – so this particular fixture looks perfect to round off our latest treble.
