Home Heroes: Back Brentford, Southend and Torquay at nearly 10/1

Jack Beresford anticipates a magical evening in the company of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy’s finest, picking out three potential home winners this Tuesday.

Home Heroes: Back Brentford, Southend and Torquay at nearly 10/1

While League One and League Two may be on pause this midweek, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy provides some welcome midweek betting action and in particular, potential home wins for Brentford against Crawley Town, Southend United over Dagenham & Redbridge and Torquay against Yeovil Town.

To be honest, it is nice to have a break from the league scene following a topsy-turvy few weeks of predictions that saw me achieve success with my Playing Away column this time last week, only to then blow it all on Saturday with predictions for yet another Portsmouth defeat and a Gillingham win.

The arrival of the JPT could not be better timed, then, giving me a chance to make amends in the premier cup competition for teams in the bottom two tiers.

Odds of almost 10/1 are available on a trio of wins for Brentford, Southend and Torquay, translating into potential winnings of £198 for anyone registering with bwin and backing the treble with their free £20 bet.

Brentford to beat Crawley @ 6/5

He may not have set the world on fire for Manchester City during his playing days, but Uwe Rosler has done a competent job at Brentford over the past year or so.

The Bees’ success so far has been built on excellent home form, with four wins and a draw to their name from their five previous games at Griffin Park.

Brentford fans won’t have to think too hard to recall their last success against big-spending Crawley Town either – Rosler’s team beat them 2-1 just last Saturday.

The visitors are hardly in scintillating form either, with just two wins to their name from their last six outings and one away victory from their last three games on the road.

I predict Brentford fans will paint the town red following a home win at 6/5.

Southend to beat Dagenham @ 4/5

The Shrimpers are another safe bet for a home win and head into this game on the back of three successive victories at Roots Hall.

By contrast, Dagenham & Redbridge fans have suffered on their travels this campaign, with the club yet to claim a win in seven games on the road.

Defending has been a particular problem for the Daggers, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of these seven matches – conceding an average of two goals a game.

History is also on Southend’s side, with the Shrimpers winning four and drawing one of the last five meetings with Dagenham & Redbridge, and they should prove too strong again this evening.

Torquay to beat Yeovil @ 3/2

Despite some early-season wobbles, Torquay United have appeared to be returning to something resembling form in the last few weeks.

The Gulls have proven particularly strong at Plainmoor and are now five games unbeaten at home – scoring an average of just over two goals a game during that time.

Yeovil Town, meanwhile, have fallen away following a positive start to the current campaign under Gary Johnson, losing six of their last seven fixtures.

Away form has been particularly poor, with Yeovil heading into this one on the back of three straight defeats on the road.

Torquay’s recent history against Yeovil points to a home win too, with the Gulls unbeaten in four against the visitors, winning their last two meetings on the south coast.

Expect that run to continue and hopefully round off a winning Home Heroes treble.
