France still in pole position following England draw
Euro 2012 odds of 2/5 mean Laurent Blanc's side are still favourites to progress to the quarter-finals from Group D.
France did their hopes of qualifying from Group D no harm yesterday evening after they came from a goal down to rescue a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with England.
Having entered the tournament as 8/5 favourites to top the group, avoiding defeat against the Three Lions sees their price remain almost the same at 31/20 to qualify for the quarter-finals as group winners.
It’s a similar story for Les Bleus to reach the quarter-final stage. Priced at 21/50 before they kicked off, they are 2/5 following the draw in what on paper is likely to be their toughest group game.
Unbeaten in their last six encounters with Ukraine, their next opponents, and undefeated against Sweden since 1988, France appear to be in a very strong position to emerge from the group, which they were unable to do four years ago.
After some dismal performances in their last two international tournaments, France entered Euro 2012 as fourth favourites in the outright winner market, due in most part to their 21 game unbeaten run prior to the competition.
Their last defeat came against Belarus back in September 2010 in the first match of their successful Euro 2012 qualification campaign.
Having entered the tournament as 8/5 favourites to top the group, avoiding defeat against the Three Lions sees their price remain almost the same at 31/20 to qualify for the quarter-finals as group winners.
Laurent Blanc’s side were originally at 21/2 to find glory this summer, which left them behind current world and European Champions Spain, Germany and 2010 World Cup runners-up Holland in bwin’s outright winner football betting market.
While Germany managed to see off Portugal in their first game and Spain held Italy to a draw, Holland went down 1-0 to Denmark, which puts their qualification from Group B in jeopardy.
With Les Bleus drawing their first game against England, they have therefore moved ahead of Bert van Marwijck’s side and are now third favourites, with their price to win the competition being cut to 7/1.
