More reasons than just blind patriotism to back another England win
An excellent destruction of Moldova in their opening World Cup qualifying match and a decent record against Ukraine point to a Wembley victory for the Three Lions.
Friday’s 5-0 demolition of Moldova in England’s opening World Cup qualifying match was an important result in more ways than one.

That England won was not surprising given their opponents, yet the manner in which they swept past the tiny nation without the nerves or inconsistencies that have become so synonymous with the national side’s recent endeavours was highly gratifying.
Beating Moldova does not mean Roy Hodgson is on his way to masterminding a first major tournament triumph since 1966, but winning so convincingly without their best player in the injured Wayne Rooney will have reinforced the growing sense in the England camp that things are going in the right direction.
The visit of Ukraine to Wembley pits the Three Lions against one of the sides they faced during this summer’s European Championships. Back in June, England beat Oleh Blokhin’s men in their own back yard thanks to a goal from Rooney as they topped the group and eliminated the co-hosts, albeit slightly fortuitously.

Hodgson’s teams are nothing if not solid and with five clean sheets recorded in his first eight games in charge, it would be no surprise if the former Fulham boss is toasting another shut-out victory come the final whistle on Tuesday.
Indeed, England’s recent record against their latest opponents is impressive, having won four of the five matches played between the sides, conceding just two goals in the process.
With a solitary win in their last six matches, Ukraine do not arrive in London in the best form and can be backed at 23/4 to record a victory. England, meanwhile, are offered at 12/25, while the draw is available at 31/10.
The price on a home win will probably only appeal to serious punters, but a more attractive option is to have a flutter on England to win to nil at 5/4.
