Back Leicester to beat Pompey and keep a clean sheet

Portsmouth's travel sickness has seen them fail to score in seven of their last ten away games and that run should continue at King Power Stadium.

Back Leicester to beat Pompey and keep a clean sheet

The visit of Portsmouth to the King Power Stadium provides Leicester City with the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways following consecutive 1-1 draws at home to Peterborough and Ipswich.

Michael Appleton’s Pompey side have found it hard going on the road this season, with just a solitary one-goal win at Burnley courtesy of a David Norris injury-time strike earlier this month to show for their efforts.

That was their first victory away from home since a 1-0 triumph in this fixture back in March.

Undefeated in their last four home matches since Nigel Pearson returned to the club as manager, City head into this game as 18/25 favourites, with the draw at 12/5 and an unlikely away success priced at 4/1.

Appleton will be hoping his side can avoid back-to-back defeats after Monday’s 1-0 loss against Millwall at the New Den, which sees them currently occupying 17th position, four points and five places below their latest opponents.

A major factor in Pompey’s inability to pick up a greater share of points away from Fratton Park is their frequent failure to find the back of the net, with only bottom club Coventry City having scored less on their travels this term.

Since their 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on the opening day of the season, Pompey have managed to score just five goals in their following ten away fixtures, with seven of those games ending in a blank for the south-coast side.

With the Foxes having already kept five clean sheets at home this season, these figures certainly don’t make good reading for Appleton and his players, and odds of 11/10 for Pompey to fire yet another blank look good value.

Given the visitors’ struggles in the goalscoring department on the road, a bet certainly worth considering is a Leicester win to nil at 8/5, while a 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 multiple correct score in favour of the home side is priced at 7/4.

With Pearson under pressure to ensure his side are in with a shout of promotion come May, it’s games like these that the Foxes must be winning and he’ll be sure to make his players aware of this.

Having already held Portsmouth at Fratton Park in a 1-1 draw earlier in the season, thanks to a goal from Pompey old boy Dave Nugent, anything other than a comfortable home win to condemn the visitors to their second defeat in a week appears unlikely.
