Birmingham v Leicester: Back the Foxes to crank up pressure on Clark
Nigel Pearson’s side have been in tremendous form of late and look great value at 5/4 to triumph over the shot-shy Blues at St Andrews on Saturday afternoon.
Five league wins on the bounce for Leicester City has catapulted them up the Championship table and they currently sit in second place, just a single point behind early leaders Cardiff City.
The Foxes’ squad has been assembled at considerable expense and after flattering to deceive for the majority of last term, they now look to be justifying their pre-season billing as favourites for the title under the shrewd guidance of Nigel Pearson.
Conversely, Birmingham City have been on a rotten run and unless they can start to pick up a few victories, it could spell the end to Lee Clark’s short tenure as Blues manager.
They have lost their last two matches at home without scoring a goal – going down 1-0 against Huddersfield after their 5-0 drubbing by Barnsley – and as a result are considered 21/10 outsiders in bwin’s 3Way result market as the Foxes visit St Andrews on Saturday.
| Champions League | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dortmund | 1-1 | Bayern Munich | £150.00 | (13/2) |
| Dortmund | 1-2 | Bayern Munich | £160.00 | (7/1) |
| Dortmund | 0-2 | Bayern Munich | £175.00 | (31/4) |
| Dortmund win | £84.00 | (16/5) | ||
| Draw | £82.00 | (31/10) | ||
| Bayern Munich win | £34.00 | (7/10) | ||
The draw is available at odds of 11/5, but the prospect of taking top spot if Cardiff slip up at Nottingham Forest should fire Leicester’s players up and in their current rich vein of form, an away win looks inevitable at an appealing price of 5/4.
Punters registering with bwin can claim a free £20 bet and placing this on Leicester to beat Birmingham would return £45 if the visitors grab all three points.
Nigel Pearson’s men have won their last two Championship fixtures by a 2-0 scoreline and a repeat of this result is available at 21/2, which looks a cracking long shot considering Birmingham’s lack of goals at present.
Leicester were leading at half-time and full-time in both of those recent victories over Bristol City and Huddersfield, so it could also be worth backing them to achieve the same feat against Clark’s troops at a price of 13/5.
The 11/5 for Birmingham not to score a goal also catches the eye, but the smartest approach is probably to play it safe and take the 5/4 on Leicester securing a victory which could see Blues in the relegation zone come 5pm on Saturday, depending on results elsewhere.
