Bet of the Day: Falcao to net a different type of hat-trick

The recent exploits of Atletico Madrid's goal machine have made the world take notice and he is the subject of Andrew Clark's late Sunday punt.

Bet of the Day: Falcao to net a different type of hat-trick

When contemplating my latest ‘Bet of the Day’ selection for this Sunday, I was disappointed to find there was only one Premier League fixture to get my teeth stuck into.

But in truth, the look of Reading v Tottenham immediately sounded the ‘betting minefield’ claxon, with my thinking being that Spurs’ uneasy start and Reading’s, well, uneasy start suggested that anything could happen at the Madejski Stadium.

So that left me on a flight straight out of England and into Europe. Even a brief stop-off in Spain saw the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona with their feet up after a Saturday evening game but one match, and one person in particular, grabbed my attention.

Yes, I’ll be looking to the Spanish capital, where Atletico Madrid play Rayo Vallecano – or should that be Radamel Falcao plays Rayo Vallecano?

The Colombian hit-man made a laughing stock of Chelsea’s Champions League-winning back four in the Super Cup two weeks ago when he scored a first half hat-trick, four days after making a laughing stock of Athletic Bilbao’s back four by scoring a…..erm……40-minute hat-trick.

As you will all know by now, this South American is the best centre-forward in the world and scores goals for fun (I’m not classing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as centre-forwards in the traditional interpretation, before you write in, appalled!).

This means our bet of the day is going to revolve around Falcao and there are a couple of options we would recommend. First up, the old classic: Falcao to score the first goal of the match at 2/1.

You could also go for Falcao to score two goals or more. That is something he seems to do every week at the moment, so it is a viable bet at the price here. “What price is the hat-trick?” I hear you cry. It’s 7/1 that he bags three or more goals.

So what angle are we taking? I’ve decided to go with Falcao to score the first goal of the match, as he has done on his last two appearances for Atletico Madrid and seeing as he is a fan of hat-tricks, back him to net a hat-trick of first goals by having a punt on those 2/1 odds.

Punters registering with bwin get a free £20 bet and if successfully used on Falcao to break the deadlock, winnings of £60 would leave anyone celebrating Colombian style.

Recommended bet: Falcao to score the first goal @ 2/1
