But things have changed both on and off the pitch, and while the stadium remains ramshackle, the economic situation of the country coupled with the club’s recent slide down the league means it rarely comes close to being full.

Sevilla, then, are not the force they once were finishing last season in 9th position, but they have started the season brightly unbeaten in their three matches so far. Real Madrid, meanwhile, have had a well documented sluggish start to the defence of their league title drawing their opening game, losing their second match, before gaining their first win against Granada. The statistics all point to an away win, with Los Blancos having won the last seven matches against Sevilla including two consecutive 6-2 victories in each of their last two visits to the Sanchez Pizjuan. Yet with the vast majority of their squad involved in at least two matches over the international break and a colossus of a Champions League group stage opener against Manchester City looming on the horizon, Jose Mourinho may well make some changes to his starting line up.
Though they may well end up winning the game, that makes backing Madrid perhaps more risky than usual, so a venture into the goals market might be more profitable.
