Playing Away: Crewe, Stevenage and Gillingham offer a big time treble
Jack Beresford picks three teams from League One and League Two for an away day punt this Saturday.
While the Olympics may have passed some of us by, this Saturday could see punters across the country claim gold by backing Crewe, Gillingham and Stevenage.
This unlikely trio of League One and League Two teams have made solid starts to their respective campaigns and could bring smiles to the faces of punters with some away wins offering good odds.
It’s all part of bwin’s new ‘Playing Away’ series examining the best three teams to back for wins on the road this weekend.
Having a flutter on any one of Gillingham, Crewe and Stevenage is sure to offer good returns on a single bet, but with odds of over 26/1 available, backing a treble could be even better.

With all this in mind, here are the reasons why you should back Stevenage, Gillingham and Crewe this weekend.
Crewe to beat Brentford @ 18/5
Crewe made a slow start to the season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Notts County, but the team quickly moved to make amends, winning 2-1 in their next game – a potentially tricky away trip to Scunthorpe United.
They will therefore be confident ahead of their trip to Brentford, particularly as they also have history on their side. The Railywaymen have won each of their four previous meetings with Brentford in the league.
More importantly, they are facing an out-of-form Bees side who have yet to win this season and are coming into the game on the back of a poor 3-1 home defeat to Yeovil Town, as well as a defeat in the Capital One Cup.
Backing Crewe to cruise to victory at 18/5 looks too good to turn down.
Stevenage to beat Oldham @ 3/2
Stevenage come into this game still unbeaten in League One and have already tasted success on the road having beaten Leyton Orient away in their last game.
The visitors beat Oldham in their last encounter and look in good form given they can also boast a victory over AFC Wimbledon in the Capital One Cup this season. Oldham meanwhile are without a win this season and drew their previous home game with Walsall.
Their other outing at home – in the Capital One Cup – ended in further disappointment, with Sheffield Wednesday claiming a comfortable 4-2 win.
With a defeat to MK Dons also undermining Oldham’s confidence, Stevenage could well take advantage with an away win priced at 3/2.
Gillingham to beat Dag and Red at 27/20
Mad Dog Martin Allen appears to have brought a bit of calm and stability to Gillingham following last season’s goal-crazy escapades, which saw the Gills score the most goals in the league with 79 but also concede a whopping 62 in 46 games.
The team have brought their goalscoring form into the current campaign but are also benefitting from an improved defensive display.
Allen’s side come into this game with a 100 per cent record in the league and have fared well away from home so far this season with an away league win over Wycombe coupled with an impressive victory over Championship side Bristol City in the Capital One Cup.
Dagenham and Redbridge, on the other hand, have been woeful this term and have failed to score in any of their last three games in losses to Coventry and Cheltenham and a draw with Portsmouth.
At 27/20, the Gills look good for the win.
