Playing Away: Stevenage, Fleetwood and Exeter can collect all the points on the road

Jack Beresford selects three stunners from League One and League Two who could upset the odds with away wins come 5pm on Saturday

Playing Away: Stevenage, Fleetwood and Exeter can collect all the points on the road

Always on the lookout for a bet offering real value, having a punt on wins for Stevenage, Fleetwood Town and Exeter City to do the business away from home against Doncaster, Bristol Rovers and Southend United certainly does just that at odds of just over 20/1.

On Tuesday I recommended Port Vale, Crawley Town and Walsall for my midweek playing away treble and while the Vale duly delivered, late a late collapse from Saddlers and a draw for the Red Devils saw my big money dreams go up in smoke.

Nevertheless, a few more days of careful research in my football statistics lab (don’t ask) seems to have done the trick, with my crack team of researchers working round the clock to assess the likelihood of wins for my three selections.

And I can you that the news is good, with odds of just under 20/1 generating a return of £395.56 for anyone utilising Bwin’s free £20 bet.

Primera Division

Levante 1-0 Rayo Vallecano £165.00 (29/4)
Levante 2-1 Rayo Vallecano £180.00 (8/1)

Draw £66.00 (23/10)
Rayo Vallecano win £56.00 (9/5)

Throw in the opportunity to have a free bet on the outcome on any of these fixtures individually and suddenly the notion that you could spend Saturday cheering on Fleetwood, a team with half the name of a combustible British American rock band, seems like a real prospect.

Stevenage to beat Doncaster @ 19/10

As much as it has been great fun to see former Premier League bully boy Dean Saunders back in football with Doncaster Rovers, the truth is that Donny remain patchy, with two wins, two defeats and a draw to their name this campaign.

Deano has yet to contend with the notion of defending at the Keepmoat Stadium and Donny have paid the price so far, conceding five in their four competitive games in Yorkshire.

The goals could continue to flow at the wrong end for Rovers this weekend too, with in-form Stevenage looking good for a win.

Gary Smith’s team have started this season in electric form and currently sit second in League One, with some suggesting they could mount a Championship charge.

Unbeaten in the league so far this term, their away form has been particularly impressive, with three wins against Leyton Orient, Coventry and Oldham giving them a 100 per cent record on the road.

Expect that continue with a Stevenage win priced at 19/10

Fleetwood Town to beat Bristol Rovers @ 6/5

Fleetwood Town will be keen to avenge their 5-2 home defeat to high-flying Port Vale in midweek, with the scoreline proving harsh on the newly-promoted side.

Fortunately, in striker Jon Parkin they have a man with the… appetite for such an occasion, with a visit to Bristol Rovers just the kind of game to get them going again.

Rovers are in terrible form, having yet to record a win this season and the south west club have picked up just single point at home this campaign, failing to score in three of their four fixtures there, losing 3-0 to Yeovil Town and Morecambe in the process.

That run could well continue against a Fleetwood side with wins in their last two away league fixtures, which includes a 4-0 demolition of Morecambe.

An away win looks likely at odds of 6/5.

Exeter City to beat Southend United @ 21/10

Exeter are another team that has so far defied the critics and currently sit third in League Two with five wins and a draw to their name.

Once again, away form has been the key, with the Grecians maintaining a 100% record on the road, while also notching up an impressive nine goals in three games – with four in their last trip out to Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.

Southend made a slow start to the season and their recent revival was curtailed in midweek by a loss to league leaders Gillingham.

Defending remains an issue for the club, who have now kept just one clean sheet in their seven competitive games this campaign.

Worse still, Paul Sturrock’s men have never scored in their three previous meetings with Exeter, with the visitors winning two of these three fixtures.

Back them to make it a hat trick of wins at 21/10
