The 27 year-old, voted Spanish Player of the Year in 2007, becomes the club’s third major singing of the summer after the arrivals of Lukas Podolski from FC Cologne and Olivier Giroud from Montpellier, and the attacking trio will add a new dimension to the Gunners’ attacking play that is sure to excite fans at the Emirates. Whether or not Robin van Persie is around to make it a fearsome quartet remains to be seen.

Cazorla should have cost significantly more than the fee the Gunners have given Malaga, but the chaos at the Spanish club, where Qatari owners have mysteriously decided to stop investing in the club after they reached the Champions League, meant that Arsenal avoided having to pay the escape clause in Cazorla’s contract (believed to be around £40million) and have got themselves a top player at a cut-price fee.
