Goals Galore: Games at Wigan, Man City and Chelsea offer 5/1 treble

After much deliberation and sleuthing, we have gone for Wigan Athletic v West Ham United, Manchester City v Swansea City and Chelsea v Manchester United to produce the goals for us this weekend.

Of course, I’m still smarting from being one single goal away from success last week. If Everton and QPR had managed just one more goal between them, then over £120 would have made it to the wallet of anyone who placed a £20 wager on our Goals Galore effort. I don’t think David Moyes or Mark Hughes could feel as hard done by as I did when those penalty appeals were waved away.

Over 2.5 goals in Wigan Athletic v West Ham @ 83/100

Yep, it’s Wigan again, just like last week and probably like next week. The Latics came up with the goods again as they thoughtfully shipped two goals at Swansea, while bagging one of their own.

But this week they are at home, where traditionally the goals are harder to come by, but as their opponents are West Ham, we’re going to keep banging the Wigan drum.

Like the hosts, the Hammers have seen five of their eight Premier League games feature over 2.5 goals and with Kevin Nolan and a fit-again Andy Carroll up top, they could take advantage of a frail Wigan back line which has conceded 15 already this season.

One final thing in favour of a goal-fest at the DW Stadium is that the last four meetings between the sides have all had over 2.5 goals, with only one of those seeing less than five scored. Long may that trend continue.

Over 2.5 goals in Manchester City v Swansea @ 12/25

The Premier League champions are fast becoming favourites of the Goals Galore articles given their continuing ability to score goals and their uncanny failure to keep a clean sheet.

Despite his deserved plaudits, Joe Hart can boast only a single shut-out this season and with Swansea no strangers to finding the net, City may well have to score more than once to secure the win at the Etihad in the Saturday evening game.

This match featured four goals last season, all of which came in the second half, so do not panic if the game remains deadlocked at the break, because Edin ‘super sub’ Dzeko will no doubt be ready.

Both teams have seen six of their eight games this campaign feature over 2.5 goals, so despite the low price, this game is a cert for this treble.

Over 2.5 goals in Chelsea v Manchester United @ 18/25

It really is a Super Sunday this weekend as post-Merseyside derby we have another clash of the titans as league leaders Chelsea take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

This game finished 3-3 last season, which could be reason alone to back this one to have more than two goals this time around. But wait, there’s more – all of their four previous meetings have seen three or more scored.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have decided to make things interesting this season by insisting on falling behind in games. In fact, eight of their 12 outings in all competitions have seen them go behind, but six of those still ended in a United victory.

Just one of the Red Devils’ eight Premier League games so far has ended with less than 2.5 goals and with them and Roberto Di Matteo’s side having the two most potent attacks in the top flight, this massive game is the perfect way to round off our treble.
