Why Sunderland look value bets to beat Blackburn

Inconsistent Blackburn could struggle to live up to their tag of favourites for tonight's clash against Sunderland.

Why Sunderland look value bets to beat Blackburn

Sunderland look value bets to beat Blackburn at Ewood Park this evening thanks to odds of 39/20 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.

Rovers are 27/20 favourites to continue their post-Christmas resurgence and pick up all three points from the encounter, with the draw at 9/4.

Steve Kean’s men have certainly improved in the last three months, with four league wins and three draws secured in their last 11 attempts.

The 15 points accumulated in this time has seen them surge up the table: bottom of the pile at Christmas with just ten points and two wins in 17 games, Blackburn are now three points clear of the relegation zone in 16th.

Aside from the West Brom result and the draw at Newcastle, Sunderland’s away league form under O’Neill has seen them beat QPR, Wigan and Stoke and lose to Tottenham and Chelsea.

But there is still an alarming degree of inconsistency in their game which makes backing them difficult: good enough, for example, to claim a 1-1 draw at Everton one week (no mean feat given the Toffees’ recent run of form), their subsequent two results saw them lose 2-0 at home to Newcastle and 7-1 away to Arsenal.

At home it has been a similar story, with wins over Fulham and QPR offset by defeats to Bolton, Stoke and Newcastle in their last six.

Sunderland, on the other hand, have been models of consistency since Martin O’Neill took over from Steve Bruce in December.

There were suggestions that the Black Cats could be running out of steam when they crashed to a 4-0 away defeat to West Brom on February 25th, but with away draws against Newcastle and Everton and a 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Stadium of Light since then, the Baggies loss looks like being nothing more than a blip.

Aside from the West Brom result and the draw at Newcastle, Sunderland’s away league form under O’Neill has seen them beat QPR, Wigan and Stoke and lose to Tottenham and Chelsea.

This is good enough to leave them fourth in the away form league table and suggests they will have enough to beat even an improved Blackburn at Ewood – particularly given the home side’s inconsistency.

With this in mind, the odds of 39/20 on a Sunderland win look too good to ignore, with a £25 free bet on this outcome set to return £73.75.

For the more conservatively-minded, there is also money to be made in the 2Way special market.

Here, Sunderland are priced at 11/10 for the win, with this bet coming with the added security of your stake being returned should the game end in a draw.
