Why Celtic should win to nil against toothless Dark Blues

Bottom-of-the-table Dundee are unlikely to trouble the scoresheet as they look set for a fifth SPL defeat of the season at Celtic Park.

Why Celtic should win to nil against toothless Dark Blues

After holding Portuguese giants Benfica to a 0-0 draw at Celtic Park on Wednesday, just as I predicted earlier in the week, the visit of shot-shy Dundee on Saturday should hold no fear for Neil Lennon’s men.

Dundee have only managed two SPL goals in six games so far this season, and one of them came from the penalty spot, so to say they are impotent in attack seems like a bit of an understatement.

Of the 11 players who started for Barry Smith’s side in last weekend’s defeat to Motherwell, only three of them have ever registered an SPL goal in their career – Ryan Conroy, Mark Kerr and Colin Nish.

Dortmund 1-1 Bayern Munich £150.00 (13/2)
Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich £160.00 (7/1)
Dortmund 0-2 Bayern Munich £175.00 (31/4)
Dortmund win £84.00 (16/5)
Draw £82.00 (31/10)
Bayern Munich win £34.00 (7/10)

Celtic winning 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 would have paid out on both of the last two occasions Dundee have visited Glasgow’s East End on SPL duty and it stands a great chance of paying out again in this one.

For this reason the bookies have little confidence in the Dark Blues troubling Fraser Forster in the Celtic goal, offering odds of 31/50 on a Celtic clean sheet and 18/25 on a home win to nil.  This is compared with 23/20 on Dundee finding the net.

The best chance of a decent return based on Dundee’s lack of goals looks to be the multiple correct score market, where you will get odds of 27/20 on Celtic winning by either 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0.

This bet would have paid out on both of the last two occasions Dundee have visited Glasgow’s East End on SPL duty and it stands a great chance of paying out again in this one.

Elsewhere in the markets, it should pay off to back Neil Lennon’s side to finish the game stronger than they start it. Eleven of Celtic’s 17 goals in all competitions have come in the second half – that’s nearly 65% of their goals being scored after the break.

With a tiring Champions League tie in midweek also likely to lead to a sluggish start, odds of 6/5 on Celtic scoring more goals in the second half than in the first look tempting.

In the 3-way betting market, Celtic are huge favourites, priced at 4/25 to pick up the three points, while Dundee are way out at 12/1 and the draw is 21/4.

Recommended Bet: Celtic to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 @ 27/20
