SPL Weekend Betting Preview

Euan McTear previews this weekend's SPL action - including the Old Firm game at Celtic Park - and picks out the best bets.

SPL Weekend Betting Preview

Pride is the only prize in Sunday’s Old Firm fixture as Celtic have already wrapped up the league, but elsewhere, the SPL points on offer could be the difference between European football for some and relegation for others.

Saturday, April 28th

Champions League

Dortmund 1-1 Bayern Munich £150.00 (13/2)
Dortmund 1-2 Bayern Munich £160.00 (7/1)
Dortmund 0-2 Bayern Munich £175.00 (31/4)
Dortmund win £84.00 (16/5)
Draw £82.00 (31/10)
Bayern Munich win £34.00 (7/10)

Key stat: In the three previous meetings between these sides this season, United have won all three without conceding.

Betting tip: A bet on the home side to pick up their fourth win to nil against Hearts this year looks a smart punt at 11/5.

Dunfermline v Aberdeen (3.00pm)

Home win: 12/5                                Draw: 12/5                          Away win: 21/20

Key stat: Dunfermline haven’t won a football match since January 21st and they haven’t won a home game this entire SPL season.

Betting tip: The obvious tip for this match is to not bet on Dunfermline. That makes a Double Chance bet on a draw or away win, at 3/10, appear a safe one.

Kilmarnock v Inverness CT (3.00pm)

Home win: 11/10                              Draw: 9/4                            Away win: 12/5

Key stat: In the last two fixtures these two have played, they have only one goal between them as Kilmarnock come off a 6-0 loss and 1-0 win, while the visitors have drawn 0-0 and lost 2-0 in their most recent games.

Betting tip: This could well be a low-scoring affair given the poor scoring records of both sides in recent weeks. That would suggest a bet on under 2.5 goals in the game, at odds of 3/4, is worth backing.

Motherwell v St Johnstone (3.00pm)

Home win: Evens                             Draw: 9/4                            Away win: 27/10

Key stat: The Saints have not scored in three matches.

Betting tip: At 31/20, it may be wise to bet on a Motherwell clean sheet, especially with the home side having earned one against St Johnstone in one of their previous meetings this season.

Sunday, April 29th

Celtic v Rangers (12.45pm)

Home win: 18/25                              Draw: 13/5                          Away win: 7/2

Key stat: The last six Old Firm meetings at Celtic Park have seen the home side score first.

Betting tip: The odds on Neil Lennon’s side to grab the clash’s first goal are 57/100 and history has shown that they tend to take the initiative when they host their Glasgow rivals.

St Mirren v Hibernian (3.15pm)

Home win: 13/10                              Draw: 11/5                          Away win: 2/1

Key stat: There were five goals the last time these two met each other at St Mirren Park.

Betting tip: St Mirren fans have enjoyed an unusually high number of goals at St Mirren Park in recent weeks. They beat Kilmarnock 4-2 and drew 4-4 last week when Dunfermline visited. And with several goals going in when Hibs defeated them 3-2 in October, we can expect plenty of attacking success on Sunday. The odds on five or more goals are 11/2 and well worth considering.
